Efficiency and quality in domestic hot water production

ECOTOP is a next-generation thermodynamic solar heat pump designed specifically for domestic hot water production.

Its compact design makes it an excellent solution for apartments and homes where space is limited. By positioning the thermodynamic block on top of the storage cylinder, ECOTOP can be installed inside a standard 60 × 60 cm cabinet. This space-saving arrangement also helps simplify installation.

Available in 200 and 300 litre capacities, ECOTOP combines an indoor hot-water storage cylinder with an outdoor thermodynamic solar panel. Storage cylinders are available in Stainless Steel 444 or Duplex 2205, with the option of an additional coil.

The system can deliver hot water at temperatures of up to 55°C, 24 hours a day, with excellent energy efficiency.

Designed for compact installations

ECOTOP provides efficient domestic hot water without demanding a large plant or utility space.

  • Fits inside a standard 60 × 60 cm cabinet
  • Thermodynamic block integrated above the cylinder
  • Stainless-steel hot-water storage tank
  • Quiet operation
  • Simple installation
  • Optional additional coil
  • Controller available in six languages
  • MCS certified

Thermodynamic solar panel technology

The lightweight thermodynamic solar panel captures environmental heat from solar radiation, wind, rain and the surrounding air.

Made from anodised aluminium with a durable protective finish, the panel contains no glass, rubber or other fragile materials. It can be installed horizontally on a roof, wall, flat roof or suitable ground-level structure.

Key advantages include:

  • Lightweight construction weighing approximately 8 kg
  • Flexible installation options
  • No overheating or freezing problems
  • No routine cleaning required
  • Resistant to moisture and corrosion
  • Performance unaffected by dirt or ageing
  • Estimated service life of approximately 25 years
  • Solar Keymark certification

High solar performance

ECOTOP has been tested according to demanding European standards and achieved a coefficient of performance of 3.9 under EN 16147 test conditions.

The test was performed without assistance from solar irradiation, wind or rain. In real-world operation, environmental energy captured by the panel can further support system performance.

For optimum results, the panel should normally face south, east or west in the northern hemisphere and be installed in a landscape orientation.

Solid and durable construction

The thermodynamic solar panel is manufactured from anodised aluminium with a specialist protective finish. This helps it withstand corrosion, including exposure to saline or otherwise aggressive environments.

Its durable construction supports a long operating life while keeping routine maintenance requirements extremely low.

Efficient hot-water storage

The cylinder uses high-density polyurethane insulation to minimise heat loss. This allows the stored water to remain hot for extended periods, even when the system is switched off.

The indoor unit incorporates a stainless-steel storage cylinder, external condenser and cathodic protection. Its thermodynamic block uses a modern, low-consumption compressor designed for efficient and quiet operation.

How the system works

The thermodynamic solar panel absorbs heat from the sun, wind, rain and surrounding air. A refrigerant circulating through the closed-loop system collects this environmental heat.

The refrigerant then travels to the compressor, where its pressure and temperature increase. It passes through a heat exchanger, transferring the collected energy to the water inside the storage cylinder.

An expansion valve subsequently lowers the refrigerant’s pressure and temperature before it returns to the outdoor panel. The cycle then begins again.

This approach requires:

  • No ventilation ducts or fans
  • No energy-consuming defrost cycles
  • No additional heat-production equipment
  • Only a highly efficient, low-consumption compressor

Intelligent controls

ECOTOP provides straightforward control over domestic hot-water production, including temperature management, time scheduling and system status.

Its controller can manage:

  • Compressor operation
  • Electrical backup heating
  • Anti-legionella disinfection cycles
  • Solar and photovoltaic functions
  • System alarms
  • Programmable operating schedules

Smart photovoltaic function

ECOTOP can make intelligent use of surplus electricity generated by photovoltaic panels, wind power or small-scale hydro systems.

Instead of exporting or wasting surplus generation, the system can convert that electricity into useful stored hot water. This helps balance renewable-energy production and household consumption while further reducing domestic hot-water costs.

Optional Wi-Fi app control

Optional app connectivity allows compatible ECOTOP systems to be monitored and managed from an Android device.

Available functions include:

  • Operating-mode selection
  • Holiday mode
  • Consumption history
  • Time scheduling
  • Water-temperature control
  • Anti-legionella cycle management

Low maintenance, long-term efficiency

A thermodynamic solar system has very few moving components. Its principal electrically powered mechanical component is a highly efficient, low-consumption compressor.

Because most of the energy used to heat the water is collected from the surrounding environment, ECOTOP can provide substantial savings compared with conventional water-heating equipment. Maintenance requirements are minimal, while the system is designed for a long service life.
